A Brief Guide To Holidays In Croatia

by Craig Walker
Croatia is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination, and it is with little wonder. A wonderful location awaits the visitor and with a beautiful climate, both relaxing and active holidays are available. From the mountains along the Adriatic, to the bustling Dubrovnik, there are holidays in Croatia for anyone to enjoy.

On the south coast of Croatia, in Dalmatia region, lie a wonderful scattering of medieval towns nestled at the foothills of the mountains. Hours can be spent wandering the streets, exploring the intriguing atmosphere, amongst the wonderful scenery.

Heading out into the Dalmatian itself, there are a number of islands just waiting to be explored. Each has its own personality, wonderful towns, and really makes for a wonderful sailing or yachting adventure.

City breaks too are well catered for in Croatia, particularly worthy of mention being the ultra glamorous, though UNESCO listed, Dubrovnik. Modern and ancient, young and old, it is a city that transforms from a cultural haven to a vibrant club capital each night.

There is no shortage of UNESCO listed cities in Croatia, as Trogir and Split attain to. Also worthy of an extended visit is Zagreb, the medieval capital of the country, which retains much of its original character.

Croatia is popular for the sun seeker of course, and with amazing pebble beaches scattered across the Dalmatian coast, this is of no surprise. With fantastic resorts too, it is a top destination for many. If something more adventurous is required, the scuba diving region in the Adriatic is a must, whilst whitewater rafting and hiking are always good in the mountain regions.

Being so close to Italy, it is no wonder that there are a large number of foodie holidays in Croatia to enjoy. The coast itself offers wonderful seafood, whilst Istria is synonymous with truffles. Wine too is made throughout the country, at ridiculously low prices for excellent quality; it is well worth stocking up before heading back home.
